Vectorize raster logo files

Request
Hi! Please vectorize this raster logo files. Thanks! --OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 01:19, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OrdinaryScarlett  Half done for #1, however I could not identify the typeface (especially noticeable when looking at an 'S'). Rajix4 (talk) 17:33, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
@OrdinaryScarlett: ✓ Done for #3. #1 is probably best recreated from scratch; I'm having trouble identifying the typeface for #2, but am working on it! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 12:22, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see the West Coast Express logo as {{PD-textlogo}}; the train is not a simple geometric shape. Glrx (talk) 21:36, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
#2 looks a bit WordArt'y, but right now I can't identify specific settings, if any. Direct vectorization appears impossible due to low quality. Can anyone with a copy of old MS PowerPoint play around? - Gabuxae (talk) 19:08, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request
I have just uploaded sufficiently clear bitmap materials about the Chinese national emblem when it was first released, providing assurance in image quality (600dpi/1200dpi).
This can be considered its appearance when it was first seen by the Chinese people. I hope to see a more accurate vector version.
A comparison reveals that:
Some of the three-dimensional details are inaccurately drawn, failing to reflect the proper perspective.
The wheat ring appears thicker in comparison.
The stacking order of some wheat grains is incorrect.
There are discrepancies in the depiction of Tiananmen.
The gears below Tiananmen are flat, lacking a three-dimensional layout.
The depiction of the folds at the lower end of the ribbon is incorrect, and its position and angle are inconsistent.
The path outline is too thick compared to the material I provided, resulting in lower precision.

A to Z in a circle

[edit]

i tried to make an svg of A to Z forming a circle after finding no existing svg. i hammered out this code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<svg viewBox="0 0 300 300" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">
<circle
     r="100"
     stroke="#000"
     cy="140"
     cx="-30"
     stroke-width="0"
     fill="none"
     id="Circle1" />
<text font-size="32" fill="#000000" letter-spacing="6.5" font-family="monospace">
<textPath xlink:href="#Circle1">ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</textPath></text>
</svg>

problems:

  1. is there a better way to achieve this? so that the 26 letters are truly equally spaced out? i tried to do the math but i cant get it right probably because i got the units wrong, so now they are just manually spaced to be roughly equidistant.
  2. png doesnt render.

(math i did:)

fontsize = x pt = 4x/3 px
26*(fontsize+spacing)=2 pi r
r = 13*(4x/3+spacing)/pi

Graphist opinion(s):

@RZuo: Unfortunately, librsvg (Wikimedia's SVG renderer) does not implement text-on-path; see Help:SVG. You need to either convert the text to paths or have each character as an individual text element with the appropriate transforms. I've overwritten the file with some example code so it renders, feel free to revert or tweak it at your discretion. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 16:41, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fvasconcellos thx a lot! your replacement is good enough for the time being. i dont have the expertise to handle more complicated svg either.
i guess specifying the positions for each letter is the only feasible method now. RZuo (talk) 17:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, this problem runs into many SVG agent limitations. WMF's uses librsvg, but it has many limitations — including no support for textPath. Chrome does not like textPath using a circle (a path that does not have a starting position). Using a path element with arc segments runs into other issues when trying to make a complete circle.
It gets worse. In theory, setting textLength="100%" should expand the text to fit the whole path (similar to startOffset="50%"). Firefox apparently ignores the textLength attribute, and Chrome does not use the correct value. Chrome will accept an explicit length of textLength="628" (but that puts no spacing between Z and A).

Graphist opinion(s)
 Not done Despite what the PNG website might say, this logo was designed by/for Wells Rich Greene in 1987, not 1904, and it is most certainly not eligible for PD-Canada. (Whether it is eligible under TOO-Canada is another question.) There is a color version available at Brands of the World, which could be uploaded to Wikipedia (not Commons) under Fair use. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 03:03, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fvasconcellos Only that logo is in the public domain because it was created in 1908, the other logos that came out are not in the public domain Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 03:45, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I'm afraid not. You can see the 1908 logo here; the crown, map, and letters are different. This logo is the late 1980s-early 1990s version. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 04:28, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request
(details of your request go here...) --Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 13:44, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
All of these emblems may be copyrighted. Why would the justification used (""Copyright shall not apply to shields, flags or emblems of any country, state, municipality or political division;") apply to soccer team emblems? The first two are tied to state universities. Are universities a political division? Certainly the last two are not tied to the government. Glrx (talk) 15:34, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Glrx The license applies because they are emblems of Mexican soccer teams , I even asked the administrator @Taivo of image and he said that it is compatible to be on Wikimedia Commons. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 17:32, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Glrx Furthermore, the license does not specify that the emblems of Mexican soccer teams cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 17:33, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Glrx The logos of state universities in Mexico do not have copyright, their logos are available here:
  • Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 17:40, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    The license says: "Copyright shall not apply to ... symbols ... of ... any ... organization officially recognized", that means: all official Mexican logos are out of copyright. For example logo projects can be copyrighted. Taivo (talk) 18:33, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Taivo: I believe that reading is too broad (if you believe the last two logos do not have a copyright). The template text states, "Copyright shall not apply to shields, flags or emblems of any country, state, municipality or political division; names, acronyms, symbols or emblems of international governmental organisations, or any other organization officially recognized; or legislative, regulatory, administrative or judicial texts, as well as their official translations." I do not see private corporations such as soccer teams being "officially recognized" because the thrust of all the other exclusions applies to government entities. I do not know Mexican law, but implied result seems absurd. A private, unrecognized, organization may copyright an emblem, but a public corporation may not. If the intent is to deny copyrights for emblems, then it could just deny copyright for all symbols and emblems. Glrx (talk) 19:38, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Practically copyright for all Mexican symbols and emblems is denied. The law is worded quite exactly: logo projects can be copyrighted, logos of unrecognized organisations can be copyrighted (by their authors, because these organisations themselves cannot hold copyright due to being unrecognized), but unrecognized organisations have generally no influence to society. The implied result seems to me logical and not at all absurd. Taivo (talk) 19:52, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Glrx Mexican soccer teams are recognized organizations by Mexican Football Federation which in turn is affiliated with Confederación Deportiva Mexicana, so it is a recognized organization, since it is affiliated to a confederation that belongs to the Government of Mexico, If it were not affiliated, it would be an illegal organization and would not have teams that are also recognized by FIFA. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 23:37, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Glrx Any organization that operates in Mexico has to be recognized by the Government of Mexico, because it would be an illegal organization. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 23:42, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I requested the deletion of these files. We have had multiple discussions and the results are always a hard delete under the Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle. The law was poorly written so that's why it is always assumed the law is too broad, but it was intended for government-only "shields, flags or emblems of any country, state, municipality or political division" as well as "names, acronyms, symbols or emblems of international governmental organisations, or any other organization officially recognized". Sports clubs are not "other organization officially recognized", which is implied to mean NGOs as those are officially recognized organizations. Sports clubs are private organizations and should be treated as companies, which can register their logos. Tbhotch 20:31, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have just done the escutcheon + crest, as I didn't feel up to the challenge of doing the supporters as well. However, I obviously don't really know what I'm doing, so if someone is able to fix it that would be great.
    Mainly if you could get rid of the red parts from the torse and mantling from the elements I used as the base and replace them with the green, remove the yellow from around the galley, and any other changes/fixes you feel may be necessary? Much appreciated!--Radicuil (talk) 12:59, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
