Graphic showing differences in neurotypical and autistic face scanning patterns
This art image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Eye Gaze Autism 1.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This image was drawn based on experiences with eye tracking in a lab. While this picture is anecdotal, research finds differences in gaze patterns between autistics and non-autistics. While non-autistics tend to focus on the eyes, nose, and mouth in a face, autistic people often scan faces differently. (This autistic person would look at mouths and other details without much time spent on the eyes.) Examples of different tracking patterns can be seen here: https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Atypical-eye-contact-in-autism%3A-Models%2C-mechanisms-Senju-Johnson/90f2b8cea053f18e0f52f475f282298673d7a535 and here: https://www.tobiipro.com/blog/eye-tracking-reveals-strengths-of-people-with-autism/
